An MMORPG that did not go gentle into that good night

The Matrix Online was an MMORPG, developed by Monolith Productions, that was supposed to ride the popularity of other big titles during its times like Everquest and World of Warcraft which was released one year prior. It never did take off though, riddled with bugs and poor game design.

Sony finally decided to pull the plug on the game, which would take place on July 31st at 11:59pm. The manner in which they ended the Matrix was what made it remarkable. They didn't decide to just quietly end the game, they went out with a bang. They even invited all previous subscribers to log in for the world ending event. The apocalypse began with the world tearing itself apart and ash rain. Pairs of eyes can be spotted in the sky peering down on its inhabitants. Demons and other supernatural creatures wreaked havoc on Mega City. It was a send off that every gamer dreams of for their favorite MMORPG when we realize that its got to end sooner or later.

Sony Entertainment has done a lot of questionable things in the past, and though this doesn't make up for it, it did show that they do have some class.
